SAN GIMIGNANO FOR 20 EURO!

0
  • Duration: about 2 hours
  • Free: for children under the age of 12

Did you know that there were more than 70 towers in San Gimignano in the early 1300s?

If you come with us on our tour of the town, we will tell you why they were built, what they were used for, and why only fourteen are still standing today.

We will tell you about the Etruscan origins of the town and why from the 6th-7th centuries AD it took on the name San Gimignano. We will explain how the town became an important center of trade along the Via Francigena in the Middle Ages. We will admire the countryside around the town from a panoramic viewpoint and talk about the crops that still characterize the area today: grapes, olives and… saffron!

During the tour, after seeing the model of “San Gimignano in the 1300s”, we will walk through the main streets and stop off in the prettiest squares: Piazza della Cisterna, Piazza del Duomo, Piazza delle Erbe. We will show you Torre del Diavolo and Torre Rognosa towers and reveal the mystery of the “Twin Towers”.

Our tour will end at the Rocca di Montestaffoli, at the top of a tall tower that offers a wonderful view of the town and the neighboring area.
